Yong Hui Smith Obituary

Yong Hui Smith, 54, born November 17, 1963, peacefully left us on May 16, 2018. She reunited with her mother, Do Han-Soon: her father, Cho Yong-Tae; her elder brother, Cho Sung-Jae; her father-in-law, Donald Betts; and son-in-law, Anthony Barry Correllus. She grew up in South Korea, where she lives on through her two older sisters, Cho Bong-Hui and Cho Bong-Sun; two younger brothers, Cho In-Jae and Cho Won-Jae; and many nieces and nephews. She moved to the United States after marrying the love of her life, Bryan Edward Smith. They were married for over thirty years. She raised three daughters, Nancy (Brad) Gallien, Julie Smith and Amy Smith, who hope to embody her strength and beauty. Her greatest joy was her beloved grandchildren, Kolton Barry Correllus and Bryson Kelly Gallien. Yong Hui turned every place she went into a home. Anyone who knew her knows that family was the center of her life. She chose to be a mother, not just to her children, but to everyone she could. She put the happiness and well-being of so many people in front of her own, taught others the hard lessons in life that many tend to avoid, always tried to do the right thing, and loved unconditionally. Yong Hui touched the lives of countless people, making a family so large that it cannot be put into words. In her final days, she was diagnosed with Large Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma, a cancer as rare as the woman who courageously fought against it. She bravely endured radiation treatments and the strongest chemotherapy known to man. She was grateful to all the loved ones who lent her strength in her fight. Cancer took her body but, it never took her spirit. It never took her heart. It never took her soul. Yong Hui’s soul will continue to watch over her cherished family. Her spirit should not be remembered with tears and sadness, but with the happiness she left in this world. Even though her physical body is no longer on this earth, she wants her family to know she is here sending you reasons to laugh, the will to smile, the strength to grow, the love to move forward, and, maybe, a few babies to hold. Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018. She will be laid to rest in Somerset Cemetery.
