William Douglas Weiland, 85, of Somerset, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Genesis Hospice of Zanesville, Ohio. He was born March 21, 1935 to the late William Henry and Helen Mary Weiland. Doug was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a foreman for A.J. McMillan Construction Company, then retired as a Captain from the Perry County Sheriff’s Department. He later finished his career at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. He also spent may years volunteering for the Somerset Parks and Recreation. Doug was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a lifetime member of BPOE 509 of New Lexington and Eagles Aerie #2070, Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58, and the Thornville AmVets Post 51. Doug was an avid New Lexington Panther fan and loved to watch his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports. He is survived by two sons, Dennis (Linda) Weiland of Gulfport, MS, and Paul (Deborah) Weiland of New Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Weiland of New Lexington; six grandchildren, Hayley, Bo Weiland, Kristen (Mike) Walker, Amber Weiland, Ashley (Jonathan) King, Melissa (Bryant) Folk, and eight great-grandchildren, Jayden Boyden, Parker Lowery, Brooklyn and Oakley Walker, Terrelle, Tanner and Zamaraye King and Benjamin Folk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Louise (Wilson) Weiland; a son, Michael Douglas Weiland; infant daughter, June Marie Weiland; three brothers, Carl, Edgar and Robert Weiland; two sisters, Rebecca Blackwell and Dorothy McMillan. The family would like to thank his special friends who always kept an eye on him for the family, John and Janie Bope, Mary Harris, Millie Ridenour and Denny Kessler. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2020 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Stephen Carmody as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58 providing graveside military honors.
