Vincent Gregory “Spark” Starkey, 73, of Somerset, passed away Thursday evening, October 16, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Greg was born August 21, 1952, in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of the late Richard D. and Betty E. (Swinehart) Starkey. He was a 1971 graduate of Sheridan High School and a U.S. Army veteran where he was a Combat Engineer. He worked at Ryder in Columbus as parts supervisor, and at Bionetics (former Newark Airforce Base) as a machine metrologist. Greg was a member of the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58 and AmVets Post 51 in Thornville. Greg had a larger-than-life personality with his quick wit and smile. He loved to make people laugh; it gave him great pleasure. Greg’s loyalty touched everyone who met him, and he will be deeply missed by all who really knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Renee’ (Barnes) Starkey, whom he married July 11, 2000; two daughters, Amber (Dan) Wamer of Somerset and April (Brett) Ginn of Thornville; four grandchildren, Morgan and Noah Wamer and Luke and Lillian Ginn; a brother, Richard Douglas Starkey of Somerset; a sister, Jeanne C. (Starkey) Bralley of Somerset; and was a dedicated pet dad to Simon. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, in Somerset Cemetery with the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58 providing military honors. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Somerset American Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Greg’s honor to the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58, P.O.
