Treva Mae Danison, 90, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, at Altercare-Somerset.
Born on November 2, 1935, in Lancaster, Ohio, Treva was the daughter of the late Bernard and Gladys Stimmel. She attended Glenford High School, where she met the love of her life, John “Johnny” Danison. The couple married on November 27, 1954, had three daughters and shared 57 beautiful years together. Their retirement years were filled with adventures across the United States in their RV, until Johnny’s passing in 2011
Treva was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University and dedicated more than 25 years to teaching elementary school at Somerset Elementary. She especially loved teaching first grade, where she helped young students build a foundation for lifelong learning. One of her favorite traditions was hosting special classroom sleepovers for her top readers — an experience her students never forgot. Treva retired from teaching in 1999 but remained passionate about education and her former students.
Treva was a devoted member of Zion United Church of Christ in Thornville, where her faith and community were cornerstones of her life. An accomplished artist, she created beautiful paintings that adorn the homes of family and friends. As a member of the Perry Painting Group, she found joy in both creativity and camaraderie. Her long-time involvement with the Mothers Club fostered enduring friendships that she treasured deeply.
An avid quilter, Treva poured her heart into crafting quilts, especially for new babies, each stitch a testament to her love and care. Above all, she cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, filling their gatherings with laughter, love, and colorful arts and crafts projects.
Treva is survived by her three daughters, Vickie Horodyski of Somerset, Jeri Danison of Somerset, and Karma (Doug) McConaha of Galena; six cherished grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Ours, Todd (Cheryl) Dupler, Kara (Isaac) Staats, Ryan (Heidi) McConaha, Teena Horodyski, Germaine Horodyski; eleven adored great-grandchildren, Skyla (Connor) St. Laurent, Tyler Dupler, Addison Staats, Emmett Staats, Emmalyn Staats, Ellsie Staats, Harriet Staats, Mason McConaha, Tia McConaha, Tori McConaha and Nash McConaha; and two sisters, Donna Wickenseimer of Newark and Sue (Jim) Hanna of Gahanna.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Danison, and siblings Berneta “Bunny” Forgrave, Harold Stimmel, Bob Bell, Jenny Belle Stimmel, and Joann Yost.
Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, 203 S. Columbus St, Somerset, where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Karen Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Somerset Cemetery.
