Stephen Eugene Paul Smith

On Friday, August 21, 2020, Stephen Eugene Paul Smith, “Smitty” passed away at the age of 63. Steve was born on December 31, 1956 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Paul Eugene Smith and Cesidia (Lollo) Smith. He was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Holy Trinity School and later in his life attended Olivet Church of the Brethren with his family. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School where he was president of the National Honor Society, member of the All Ohio Youth Choir, and played on the football and baseball teams. Steve attended The Ohio State University and then later graduated from what he called a “real college”- Ohio University. He spent 38 years of his career with Ralston Foods and then went on to work for Post as a traveling logistical manager. He retired at the age of 60 and enjoyed his retirement with his loving wife Dena, camping and traveling with friends and riding his beloved Indian motorcycle (often wearing an Indian headdress while doing so.) Steve was known for his quick wit and enjoying his life to the fullest. Whether it was traveling to Europe to run (really trot) with the bulls in Spain, experiencing his heritage touring Italy, or the simpler things- telling perfectly timed jokes (and of course expecting a laugh), sharing a beer with a friend or a stranger, fiddling with his Farmall tractor, and most importantly, sharing fun times with his family and friends, Steve lived life with no regrets. Steve is survived by the love of his life, Dena (Baughman) Smith, daughter Andrea (Patrick) Cullinan, sisters Patricia (Mike) Blakely, Laura (Rick) Parker, brothers Vince (Cindi) Smith, John (Judy) Smith, brother in law Mike (Linda) Baughman, mother in law, Joyce Baughman and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Steve is preceded in death by his son, Aaron, parents Gene and Sue Smith, and father in law Dick Baughman. A public graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Olivet Cemetery, Highpoint Rd. in Ziontown where friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Perry County Cancer Alliance, P.O.
