Stephen Eugene Danison, AKA Pony Horse, was born June 4, 1952, and passed away at home on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Home was his favorite place to be. The son of Kenneth Eugene Danison and Mary Ellen (Shaw) Danison, Steve was a 1970 graduate of Sheridan High School in Thornville, Ohio. He took great pride in playing on the football, golf, and wrestling teams as well as participating in other school activities. Steve’s greatest passion was horses. On occasion he walked from his house on Market Street in Somerset to his Grandpa Danison’s farm on 668 to ride a pony named Babe! He had a lifetime of horse breaking, horse training and teaching horsemanship. He went to the Kentucky Derby and ponied horses at Beulah Park leading to the nickname Pony Horse. Steve worked at the Landmark Feed Mill as a young man and then worked for the Peabody Coal Company. He later worked as a dock foreman for Transport Services and UPS before retiring. Steve met his wife Doris and her daughter Barbary in 1991. They married and created a close-knit family. They shared their love of horses from the time they met. Between barrel racing and harness racing they enjoyed good times, accolades and many awards. After Steve retired, he took great pride and enjoyment in helping to raise his grandchildren Cody, Carly and CeCe who were the lights of his life. Steve took great pride in caring for his family. Steve is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doris Crandell, his bonus daughter Barbary (Justin) Sanderson, grandchildren Cody, Carly and CeCe Sanderson, sister Sharon (Jim) Starr, brothers Geary (Mickey) Danison and Brent (Kim) Danison, many nieces and nephews and his dog buddies Charlie and Benny. A cowboy celebration of life is planned for Sunday, June 7, 2026, at South Shore Ministries with Pastor Doug Lynn officiating. Calling hours will be from 4-5 p.m. followed by services at 5. Snacks and food will be offered after the service. Desserts are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to South Shore Ministries or Fairhope Hospice.
