Richard Glenn “Red” Howdyshell, 70, of New Lexington, Ohio, passed away at 5:36 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2025, at Genesis Perry County Medical Center. Red was born December 25, 1954, in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of the late Henson H. and Mary Howdyshell and his mother Joann (Reed) Naragon. He was a 1973 graduate of New Lexington High School and a member of New Lexington Elks #509. He was a lifetime logger, starting in high school with Howdyshell Lumber Company and eventually owning his own logging company. Red never knew a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheri Howdyshell, whom he married November 15, 1975; his children, Wyatt (Pauline) Howdyshell and Jesse Howdyshell, both of New Lexington; one grandson, Jonathon (Emily) Howdyshell; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Haylie Howdyshell; two brothers, Henry (Phyllis) Howdyshell of New Lexington and Larry (Linda) Howdyshell of Florida; one sister, Kira (Mike) Marcum of New Lexington; sisters-in-law, Vikki (David) Clark of Lancaster and Bobbie (Phil) Wollenberg of New Lexington; and a brother-in-law, Mike (Myrna) Hutchison of Junction City; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a caring cremation at Red’s request. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the New Lexington Elks, 109 S. Main St. New Lexington, Ohio. Interment will be in New Lexington Cemetery at a later date. Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset is entrusted with the arrangements.
