Richard "Dick" E. Turner

Richard E. Turner, “Dick or known as Papaw” 86 of Somerset, passed peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pataskala Ohio and was raised in Glenford.

Richard was active with the Masonic Lodge # 76 F & AM and served in the US Airforce in 1957. Dick retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Newark after 37 plus years of service. He was a jack of all trades in plumbing, electrical and carpentry. He built many houses and businesses and his stories of them with his friends are endless. 

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Kenneth Turner and Gladys Viola Helser, siblings, Robert Turner, Connie Russell and Ruth Klingler and past wives, Loretta, Linda and Kay Turner.

He is survived by his loving great-granddaughter Hayley Michelle Turner of Somerset, daughters, Becky Cunningham of Somerset; Stephanie Norrish of Tempe Arizona; Son, Craig Spalding of Lancaster, daughters, Cheri Shumaker and Lisa Bowman of Newark; adoptive daughter, Mechelle Siemer of Somerset; grandchildren, Tiffany and Jeremy Large , Shawn, Hannah, Rachel, Erin, Kelsea, Seth, Marcus, Christian, Alex and Megan; great-grandchildren, Carson, Bentley, Kaylin, Cole, Evelyn, Elaine, Ean, and Eve, and family Linda Hammond and Carol Hammer.

Richard spent plenty of time in his community with building houses and working for the Somerset Memorial park. He will be greatly missed by his coffee buddies at Sophie's Tea room in Somerset.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Somerset United Methodist Church with Rev. John Edwards officiating.  Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service at the church. The Masonic Lodge #76 F & AM will have a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. at the church and the Somerset American Legion will conduct military rites following the service.
