Richard Hommrich Obituary

Longtime Mt. Perry resident, Richard A. “Dick” Hommrich, a retired engineer from the former Newark Air Force Base and farmer, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at age 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Hommrich and Alvina Hoeferle Hommrich; and sisters, Elaine Effinger and Mary Jane Costelle. Richard is survived by his wife Margaret; his seven children, Richard, Barbara Dial, James, Linda Turvy (John), David (Becky), Teresa Buckholz (John), and Thomas (Lisa); brother, William Hommrich; and sisters, Joan Ross and Rita Hommrich, SCN. Richard was born on June 4, 1930 in Louisville, KY. He lived there until his marriage to wife Margaret in 1951. With his enlistment in the Air Force, he began a series of moves that took him and his growing family westward to California, Colorado and Nebraska, before finally settling in Ohio. Richard and his family belonged to the parish of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Somerset, Ohio. He was well known and respected in the community as a good neighbor and friend; a person who would help anyone in need. Richard lived and worked for nearly 50 years on his farm in Perry County, where he moved with his family in 1969. He was a family man who was happiest when his wife and children were around him. As a man of great integrity, he instilled in his children a strong work ethic, and the belief that family always comes first. Along with his wife and children, Richard is survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, all of whom were very close and dear to him. Known as “Grandad”, he provided countless hayrides, bonfires, and outdoor adventures on the family farm over the years. Children and grandchildren alike looked forward to spending time at the farm and have many cherished memories there. A private family service will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Somerset, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: The Morrison House, Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, 713 Forest Ave., Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
