Patricia Kessler Obituary

Patricia Ann Kessler, 86, of Somerset, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Somerset Altercare. Patricia was born December 30, 1939, to the late Alan and Pauline Guest in New Milford, New Jersey. She graduated from Dumont High School in Dumont, NJ in 1957, where she excelled in all that she tried or did. She was the first girl in an all-boy rifle team; a double science major which would further her future career, and because she was an accomplished artist by the age of 10, she was asked to do the artwork for the high school yearbook, which was just the beginning of the things that Pat would excel in. Pat did not have the normal childhood growing pains. By the age of 18 she was diagnosed with severe arthritis, but she was determined to become a nurse so, in 1957, after high school, she decided to become a nurse with best friends, Ginny and Wilma, which were part of the first class of LPNs in the state of New Jersey. They worked on an iron lung unit for men at Bergen Pines Hospital. In 1960, with the strain of walking and standing, the pain became unbearable, so she decided to change her career and become a dental assistant. Both these jobs she exceeded or performed beyond what anyone could. Later that year she made another change in her life, so in October she married her high school sweetheart Don Kessler from Dumont, NJ. In April of 1963 began a new chapter in Pat’s life. She was blessed and gave birth to her first son Scott. Now she not only was a wife but a new mother, which was another job for her to excel at. Being a wife to Don and mother to Scott was met with challenges, but in June of 1970 she was blessed once again with the birth of her second son Andrew. From 1957 to 1970 Pat had been a nurse, dental assistant, married and had 2 sons, all of which she was the best at. In 1978 Pat expanded her horizons once again. She began working again as a dental assistant working with migrant workers and providing home care nursing for young people with disabilities, as well as babysitting children near her home which she did for 10 years. In 1988, Pat, her husband and two sons made the wise decision and moved from New York State to Columbus, Ohio, which meant she was then closer to her sister Lois and mother Pauline. Mom always said, “I know that I have the ability to do more and I’m not going to give up until I find what I can’t do”. Well, she found it her ability was to work for Ohio State University Department of Medicine Foundation as an account representative until retirement, another thing she did well and was praised for. Pat was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Patricia is preceded in death by her husband Donald Kessler; son Andrew Kessler; sister Lois Wiegand (Guest); mother and father-in-law, Walter and Myrtle Kessler; and brother-in-law, Rod Kessler. She is survived by her son Scott (Theresa) Kessler of Reynoldsburg; grandson, Brandon Kessler; daughter-in-law, Christina Kessler; brother-in-law, Barry Wiegand; nephew, Rick (Christy) Wiegand and family; niece, Kris (Mike) Leggett and family; grandson, Ethan Kessler; two God daughters, Donna Dean-Black and family and Kerri Yankus and family; nieces and nephews, Lynn Kessler, Laurie Kessler and Robert Kessler; and cousins, June and Joanne from New York. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Hopewell United Methodist Church, 11742 Gower Rd., Glenford, Ohio, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
