Monte Dale Eveland, 68, of Rushville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at his residence. Born on January 10, 1956, to Charles and Mary Lou Eveland, Monte was a cherished member of the Perry County community throughout his life. He dedicated nearly 30 years of service to the Certified gas station in Somerset, followed by stints at Village Lanes in Thornville, Central Ohio Heating and Cooling, and finally the Toy Store, where he joyfully worked alongside his sons. His career was marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to providing for his family and serving his community. A man of many interests, Monte was renowned for his green thumb as an avid gardener, generously sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors. Monte was also a passionate OSU sports fan, cheering on the Bengals and Reds alongside his sons. His culinary skills, especially his famous baked beans, were a highlight at family gatherings. His love for nature was evident in his enjoyment of feeding and watching the deer in his yard, and he cherished the moments spent spoiling his youngest granddaughter. Monte is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jewel “Babe” Eveland; sons, Thad (Tiffany) Eveland and Chad (Donna) Eveland; siblings, Bev (Paul) Pickett, Jim (Cheryl) Eveland, and Don (Brenda) Eveland; grandchildren, Taylor, Trever, and Tamryn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Lou Eveland and his sister, Donna Sue. Monte’s life was a testament to his kind-hearted nature, always eager to lend a hand or donate to those in need. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. His family and friends will dearly miss his jovial spirit and generous soul. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2024, with Bobby Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in New Reading Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Somerset 4th of July Celebration, an event Monte held dear.
