Michael Eugene Waugh, 69, of Somerset, Ohio, passed from this world on Friday evening, August 23, 2024, at Fairfield Medical Center.
Mike was born in Fairfield County, Ohio to Grover Lee and Mary Lou Waugh on March 12, 1955. He grew up in Somerset alongside his two brothers and four sisters, working together on the family farm. Upon graduation from Sheridan High School in 1973, Mike enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1977. After his discharge, he joined the Ohio National Guard. His time in the military inspired many of his hobbies and friendships over the years. Mike pursued an education as a diesel technician at Northwestern Diesel School, a skillset he was eventually able to use to start his own business as a mechanic and professional truck driver. Over the course of many years Mike continued to evolve the business even further, transitioning into mobile trailer repair, owning multiple trucks, managing drivers and eventually starting a garage for semi-truck and trailer repair. All along the way Kathy was behind the scenes running the books, preparing payroll and assisting with the multitude of other tasks that come with entrepreneurship. As the business became more successful, Mike found a new passion in the world of investing. As the years passed his experience as a business owner gradually developed his investment style, which proved to be equally successful. In his free time, you would often find Mike practicing with one of the many rifles he had in his collection or tinkering in his garage. Friends were always welcome and knew that if you stopped by Mike’s place, he was going to lend a helping hand.
Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Waugh; daughter, Carrie (Bart) Luster, son, Todd (Megan) Waugh, granddaughter, Kourtney Luster, grandson, Karter (Madison) Luster; great grandsons, Maverick and Kashton Luster; his siblings, Charles (Diana) Waugh, Kathy McCarty, Richard (Leslie) Waugh, Janet (Stephen) Gaswint, Ellen (Timothy) Summers; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Lee Sterling; and brothers-in-law, Andy McCarty and Ralph Elsbernd.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
