Michael Franklin Perry, 51, of Somerset, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022, after long Covid illness.
Mike was born December 1, 1970, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of William Franklin Perry of North Kingsville, Ohio and Vivian Cogswell Courtney of Somerset, Ohio. Mike graduated from Newton Conover High School in North Carolina in 1989 and worked for International Masonry for close to 20 years. He also worked with his uncle, Gene “Butch” Cogswell in the timber industry.
He loved fishing and hunting with his stepfather, James, and riding his motorcycle and four-wheeler. He could build and fix just about anything. He loved playing his bass guitar and camping at the river with Uncle Butch. He never met a stranger and had many friends who loved him. He loved his cat Opie, who followed him around like a dog, and his best dog, Punkie who had passed on before him. Mike will be greatly missed by his family and friends. RIP my son.
Mike is survived by his mother, Vivian Cogswell Courtney; son, Craig Perry of NC.; sister, Marcy Hoffman of Somerset; brother, Jason (Traci) Courtney of Lancaster, Ohio; half-sister, Tonya; nephews, Jas, Tyler, Trevor and Trent; his favorite uncles, Rodger Dale Courtney and Gene B. Cogswell whom he loved; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, James R. Courtney who raised Mike since the age of 2 until he passed away on June 21, 2022, and whom Mike considered his best friend and dad; his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Shirley Cogswell; his paternal grandparents, Matt and Vera Perry; uncles, Steve and Garnett Perry; stepbrother, Perry Courtney; cousin, Keith Knowlden and uncle, Elwood Cogswell.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2022, in Community Gardens, 5080 St. Rt. 13 NE, New Lexington, Ohio with Pastor David Helser officiating.
Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset is entrusted with the arrangements.
