Michael “Mike” L. Lally, 81, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 14, 2023. He was born April 13, 1942, in Zanesville, Ohio, the first child of the late Thomas “Tom” A. Lally and Clarissa “Cris” E. (Sweney) Lally. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1960. He married the love of his life, Dorothy L. (Humphrey) Lally. They shared a wonderful marriage and were blessed with their son, Justin. Mike was proceeded in death by his parents Tom and Cris, and bride, Dorothy. He is survived by his son, Justin, by his brother Pat Lally of Somerset, brother Steve (Kathleen) Lally of Marana, AZ, sister Mary Martha (Frank) Kammerer of Lithopolis, and sister Anne (Mike) Probasco of Lancaster. Also, many special in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mike was a lifelong businessman in OH, WV, and KY areas dealing in credit bureaus and real estate holdings. He served may years as Councilman on the Somerset Village Council. While on Council he worked on various federal grant projects for the betterment of the Village. He served his country in the Ohio Army National Guard (OANG). While in the OANG, he graduated from Ohio Officer Candidate School (OCS) Class #12 and was commissioned a Lieutenant. He was a proud member of the Somerset American Legion, Leo Ryan Post 58. He was part of a three-person group from high school, that drove the length of the historic US Route 66, all the way to Los Angles and back. This was long before the Interstate System was constructed. As a young boy in Somerset, he had a newspaper route and worked in the local shoe store, where he sold and repaired shoes. He enjoyed life, family, friends, and living in Somerset.
Friends may call from 4 PM – 7 PM, Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday September 22, 2023, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Somerset with Father Andre-Joseph LaCasse, O.P. as celebrant. Mike will be laid to rest beside his bride, Dorothy, at his beloved Holy Trinity Cemetery in Somerset with Somerset American Legion, Leo Ryan Post 58 providing military honors. A celebration of life reception will follow immediately after burial at the Somerset American Legion, Leo Ryan Post 58. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Cemetery Association.
