Martin C. Riffle Obituary

Martin C. Riffle, 64, of Somerset, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, at Pickering House Hospice with family at his side. Martin was born March 1, 1962, in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Clifford and Freda (Waddington) Riffle. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Wendy Riffle. A life-long resident of Somerset, Martin married the love of his life and partner in all things, Laura Riffle on May 22, 2004. Additionally, he is the proud and loving stepfather of Kate and Anthony Salvatore. Martin is blessed with grandchildren; Sophia and Adam Drake who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by siblings, Eric (Brenda) Riffle, Karen (Don) Curry and numerous nieces and nephews. Martin spoke fondly of growing up in Somerset. He had a great childhood where kids could run and play all day as long as they were home for dinner. As an adult, he devoted time and energy to Somerset Lions Club, Park Board and 4th of July Celebration. He was the driving force behind Sophie’s Tea Room. He spent years renovating the building to be one of the finest in Somerset…just so his wife could live her dream. Many residents of Somerset and beyond are well aware of Martin’s talents as a craftsman when it comes to carpentry, home repairs, building and renovations. Completely honest, trustworthy and knowledgeable, there didn’t seem to be anything he couldn’t repair or build. Some customers have become lifelong friends because of his strong work ethic and amazing ability. He felt strongly that his work should be done right or not at all. Above all, Martin was generous and never hesitated to help his friends and family. He truly had a servant’s heart. He was the finest, most devoted and kind husband. He showed his love daily, unconditionally and without hesitation. He considered his marriage to be a team effort and the best thing that ever happened to him. Thank you for choosing me. Martin’s death leaves a void no one can fill. But we have been so blessed to be a part of his life. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Somerset Community Church, 139, E. Main St., Somerset, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to: Perry County Cancer Alliance, P.O.
