Martha L. (Saffell) Sweeney

Martha L. Sweeney, 92, of Junction City, Ohio, formerly of Somerset, Ohio, passed away peacefully at 3:02 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Martha was born October 14, 1930, to the late Bert and Augusta (Williams) Saffell. She was a member of New Lebanon Lutheran Church in Junction City, a member of the OCCL Mother’s Club, and an active member of the Lutheran League. She enjoyed reading, crafting, baking, and playing Euchre. Martha retired after 26 years in clerical work. She is survived by her six children, Kathy (Tim) Lentz, Kevin (Judy) Sweeney, Kim (Randi) Stevenson, Kelly (Dave) Kunkler, Kristi (Tim) Wollenberg, Kayla (Ed) Kunkler; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Margie Saffell; cousin and close friend, Connie Hatem; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband of 51 years, James “Don” Sweeney; 3 brothers, Ralph, Bert Jr., and James Saffell; and a granddaughter, Christen Dawn Kunkler. The family would like to thank her caregiver and honorary granddaughter Lindsey Koonts, Alberta Lyons, Jeff VanMeter and Staff, Nurse Becky of FairHope Hospice and Staff, for their great care. Martha had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2023 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at New Lebanon Lutheran Church, 582 Logan St., Junction City, Ohio with Pastor Kristin Santiago officiating.
