Leo Patrick "Pat" Green Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leo Patrick “Pat” Green who departed this world surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the age of 80. Pat was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and brother and a beacon of faith, wisdom, and strength to all who knew him. Born on May 4, 1945, Pat grew up in Somerset, where he cultivated passions and talents that left a lasting mark on those around him. Pat attended Holy Trinity Elementary School and St. Al’s High School. Pat retired from the Perry County Engineers Office where he spent over 30 years working a variety of positions. While Pat’s first love was taking care of his 200-acre farm, he always looked forward to a home-cooked meal, with dessert, at 5 o’clock sharp, courtesy of his wife, Mary. Pat was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where, over the years, he had active roles in several organizations. He also served on the board for the USDA – Fairfield/Perry County Farm Service Agency. At the core of Pat’s life was an unwavering devotion to family. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Mary, his children Sheryl (Dave) Slatzer, Steve (DiAnna) Green, Shawn (Nicole) Green, Sheila (Hal) Gillespie, Shevon (Scott) Owen, and Scott (Debbie) Green. Pat is also survived by his grandchildren Erika (Jay) Forgrave, Aaron (MaryKate) Slatzer, Anna (Max) Hickman, Andrew (Addyson Boyer) Slatzer, Elyssa Slatzer, Parker, Paige, and Paityn Green, Isla, Lillian, and Leo Green, Hal, Graeme, and Heath Gillespie, Drake, Cash, and Charlie Owen, Jaxson, Juliana, and Jayden Green, great-grandchildren, Grady Forgrave, Grey and Sawyer Slatzer, and Lainey Hickman, as well as brothers-in-law, Terry Ebert and Steve Herendeen, sister-in-law Beth Green, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pauline Green, mother and father in-law, Cecilia and Bernard Schmeltzer, brother Bill Green, and sisters Peg Ebert and Mary Herendeen. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, 203 S. Columbus St, Somerset. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Somerset with Father Andre-Joseph LaCasse O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Holy Trinity School, PO Box 190, Somerset OH 43783, Fairhope Hospice and Palliative Care, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster OH 43130, or the Perry County Cancer Alliance PO Box 724, New Lexington OH 43764 in Pat’s honor, ensuring that their spirit of generosity lives on.
