Kenneth “Kenny” Deavers, 78, of New Lexington, passed away at 3:18 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Genesis in Zanesville. Kenny was born January 10, 1942 in Bristol, Ohio, the son of the late Cyril and Sarah Jane (Taylor) Deavers. He attended his first eight years of school in a two-room schoolhouse at Bristol. He graduated from New Lexington High School in 1959. Kenny was proud of his Bristol heritage. He had his Bristol Elephant story published in a book called “Cold Outhouses and Kerosene Lamps.” Kenny was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. Prior to joining there, he attended New Lexington First Church of God and New Lexington First Church of the Nazarene. He was very active in both churches. Kenny loved teaching Sunday School and leading Bible Study. Kenny loved volunteering to help others. He was a past officer of United Steel Workers of America 7187, Perry Credit Union, and New Lex Band Boosters. He was a big sports fan of Panthers, Buckeyes and Browns. He enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms and taking rides. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Wanda McLean Deavers whom he married July 2, 1966; his daughter, Rhonda (David) Ours of Somerset; grandchildren, Braden (Evan) Ours, Emmalee Ours and her fiancée Tyler King and Madison Ours and her fiancée David Adams; and a sister, Evelyn Furney of Thornville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosalie Orr and Ardella Gifford; and brothers-in-law, Glen Orr, Gene Furney and Howard Gifford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Rose Catholic Church in New Lexington with Father Chris Yakkel as celebrant. Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. at the church, where Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m..
