Kathryn “Kathy, Kate” (Talbot) Turnes, 81, of Somerset, passed away peacefully after a short, stoic battle with cancer on Thursday, April 13, 2023. Kathryn was born at her home in New Lexington, on September 14, 1941, to the late George and Goldie (Carney) Talbot. Kathryn was married to Jerry E. Turnes, Sr., and was blessed to get to share, just shy of 61 years, with the love of her life, raising their children. Kenna (Jeff) Mautz, of Somerset; Deana (Jon) Rhodes, of Mt. Perry; Anita Turnes Fouch, of Somerset; Jerry E. Turnes Jr., of Columbus. Kathryn lived in Perry County all of her life, and worked as a Cook for the Northern Local School District for many years. Kathryn loved to quilt and belonged to the Patchwork Sisters Quilt Club. She was a member of the JFK Mothers Club, and also a member of the Somerset Church of Christ. Kathryn was the best cook and loved to bake, and would always have something sweet to eat waiting at the house for all of us to enjoy. We all truly got our love of “sweets” from the sweetest angel we’ve ever known. Her most treasured gifts were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. The “littles” could put a sparkle in her eyes, that could light up any room. Kathryn was also a “professional” puzzler, and on any given day, had one set-up that she was working on, unless she was reading a good book. Kathryn is survived by 6 of her 10 siblings, who will miss her dearly. Patricia (Andy) Kelly, Dorothy (Norman “Bud”) Patterson, John Talbot, Ernie (Cheryl) Talbot, Eddie (Rhonda) Talbot, Carol (Steve) Middaugh. Three in-laws; Bill Turnes, Gary (Carolyn) Turnes. Nine Grandchildren; Stephanie (Josh) Isham, Zachary Fouch, Paige (Drew) Clouse, Courtney (Treg) Ulmer, Kathryn Rhodes (Aaron Lones), Mitchell (Kate) Fouch, Thomas Rhodes, Ben (Katherine) Rhodes and “little” Jake Rhodes. Eight Great Grandchildren; Jaxi, Jema, Jola, Juni Isham, Jordan Clouse, Addie Jane, William Ulmer, Lincoln Fouch, along with a set of twins and 1 other expected this year. Many nieces and nephews, too numerous to list, but loved so dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers; Darrel Talbot, Roger Talbot, Donnie Talbot, and Tom Talbot. Mother/Father-in-law; Hershel (Lura Williamson) Turnes; and Sisters-in-law; Diane Turnes, Chris Talbot, Jane Talbot, and Norma Patterson. Family and Friends may call from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the Bope–Thomas Funeral Home, 203 S. Columbus Street, Somerset. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with viewing an hour prior to the service, at the Somerset Church of Christ, 314 N. Market St., Somerset, with Doug Oakes officiating. Burial will follow in Somerset Cemetery. Donations can be made in honor of Kathryn, at FairHope Hospice and Palliative Care, 282 Sells Rd, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. The family would also like to thank the amazing staff at Fairfield Medical Center, for the wonderful care and kindness that they provided for our mother and our family during this difficult season of our lives.
