John Talbot Obituary

John George Talbot, 73, of Somerset, Ohio, passed away at 6:59 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Fairfield Medical Center surrounded by family. John was born September 28, 1949, in Zanesville, Ohio to the late George and Goldie (Carney) Talbot. He served his country as a Marine during Vietnam and retired from DTF Trucking. He was a member of the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58. John is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Jane (Patterson) Talbot and their two dogs, Shorty and Molly; four brothers, Darrel, Roger, Donnie, and Tom Talbot; and a sister, Kathryn Turnes. He is survived by his sons, Brian (Dee) Talbot and Timothy (Kelly) Talbot; stepdaughter, Bobbi (Rick) Schmeltzer; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Jerrod) Abel, Logan (Emily) Talbot, Colton, Tyler and Lily Talbot, Ryan, Jacob, Luke, and Grace Schmeltzer; great-grandchildren, Niles and Nyla Abel and Oakley Talbot; five of his ten siblings who will miss him dearly, Patricia (Andy) Kelly, Dorothy (Norman “Bud”) Patterson, Ernie (Cheryl) Talbot, Eddie (Rhonda) Talbot, and Carol (Steve) Middaugh; four-legged companion, Henry; special friends, Ed Snider and Art Snyder; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, in New Reading Cemetery with military honors provided by the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58. Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset is entrusted with the arrangements.
