John “Mick” Mickey, 76, of Somerset, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at his home.
John was born June 14, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Francis and Mary (Emmert) Mickey. John lived in the Somerset area all of his life. After graduating high school in 1964, he joined the US Army where he served his country from 1965 to 1967. John was Catholic by faith. He retired from Rockwell International after 30 years. He was a fire fighter and a captain on the Somerset-Reading Twp. Fire Dept. He was a lifetime member of the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58 and Somerset Lions Club.
His family was his life and he loved watching his grandchildren’s sports. John had many hobbies including fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He was a mechanic who could fix anything. He loved country music, western movies, and sports. To his children and wife, he was very hard working and the strongest man they knew. He was their “Hero”.
John is survived by his lovely wife of 34 years, Mary Lou Mickey; six children, Stephanie (Bruce) Sands of New Lexington, Jody (Tim) Severance of Roseville, Arica (Rusty) Reeves of Roseville, Heidi (Aaron) Gard of Adamsville, Christy (Rodney) Gutridge of Hebron and Lisa (Dave) Bennion of Cleveland; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Cynthia Mickey, Patti Frame, Wilma Wilson, Mary (John) White, James (Donna) Mickey; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara McElroy and Marilyn Greene.
Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Somerset United Methodist Church, 139 E. Main St., Somerset, Ohio where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Karen Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Somerset Cemetery with military honors by the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58.
