John Jay Johnson, 58, of Defuniak Springs, Florida (formerly of Somerset and New Lexington, Ohio), passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Defuniak Springs, Florida. John was born on August 30, 1962 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Thomas H. Johnson Jr. and Marna Johnson Burson. John graduated in 1980 from New Lexington High School and from The Ohio State University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He also obtained his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. John had a long and successful career in private business and public service. He is the President and CEO of Land Engineering Company in Defuniak Springs Florida and served in positions of County Engineer and/or City Administrator in Walton and Charlotte counties in Florida, Swift County, Minnesota, Sac County, Iowa, Geneva, New York and New Lexington, Ohio. John was a nature lover and an accomplished builder who built his first log cabin when he was in college, as well as his homestead in Florida where he was surrounded by his pets and animals and enjoyed hosting friends and family whom he entertained with his guitar and banjo. He is survived by his daughter, Taylor Jade Stone of Cherokee, Iowa; two grandchildren, Arianna and Tristan Stone; brother and sisters, Thomas Johnson and Joy Alcalde of Somerset, Ohio and Donna King of Franklin, Ohio; nieces, Jessica Alcalde and Melanie Bergfeld and nephew Mark Bergfeld.
