Joel G. Harlan, 77, of Somerset, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday morning, September 15, 2024.
Joel was born February 18, 1947, in Frankfort, Germany to the late Jack and Margarete “Gretel” Harlan. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School and proudly served in the United States Army at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
Joel was a 50+ year member of the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58 and served for over 30 years on the Honor Guard Drill Team. He retired from Rockwell International and was a member of the Somerset Community Church.
Joel loved NASCAR races and his antique Farmall Tractor. He always had a big smile when he was on it. Joel also enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially accompanied by his beloved beagles.
He is survived by his son, Jerry (Cindy) Harlan; daughter, Julie Harlan; two grandchildren, Briley and Allison Harlan, all of North Lewisburg, Ohio.
Joel was loved by many friends, family and neighbors. He will be greatly missed by all. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2024, in Somerset Cemetery with the Rev. Karen Walters officiating. Military honors will be provided by Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58 Honor Guard.
