Jeryl Martin “Jerry” Tompkins, 87, formerly of Somerset, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024, at The Oaks at Bethesda. Jerry was born August 29, 1936, in Newark, Ohio, the son of the late Walter W. and Iva Lenora (Pittis) Tompkins. He was a 1956 graduate of Somerset High School and was a Vietnam Air Force veteran serving from 1956- 1963. He retired from Baltimore Paper Mill. In retirement, he worked in Zanesville at the Masonic Temple as an elevator operator. Jerry was a member of the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58, Somerset Lions Club, and a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He loved sports of all kinds and was an avid OSU Buckeye’s Fan. He is survived by a niece, Mary F. Smith of Roseville; and one great nephew, Nathan Seesholtz of Portsmouth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred; and three brothers, Fred, and twin brothers Edwin and Edward. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in Somerset Cemetery.
