Jerry Ellis Turnes, 84, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, after a long 3 years of missing the love of his life, the late Kathryn (Talbot) Turnes, of almost 61 years. Jerry was born in Steubenville, OH to the late Hershel and Lura (Williamson) Turnes, on November 26, 1941. Jerry was a member and past Deacon of the Somerset Church of Christ. Throughout the years Jerry was a very hard worker. He was employed by and retired from Central Silica, while also being a painter, during that period of his life. After retiring, Jerry began his own lawn mower & service company, Jerry’s Lawn and Garden, located at his home. Jerry had a huge love of engines, both big and small, and was able to fix just about anything he was challenged with. He was also a member of the Sistersville Oil and Gas “engine” group. For many years, Jerry and Kathy also enjoyed the places they owned at Lake Erie, and in McConnelsville on the Muskingum River, relaxing and boating. Also being a very talented woodworker, he spent a lot of hours in his garage making many wood items to give to others for their enjoyment. Jerry is survived by his 4 children, Kenna (Jeff) Mautz, of Somerset; Deana (Jon) Rhodes, of Mt. Perry; Anita Turnes Fouch, of Somerset; Jerry E. Turnes, Jr., of Columbus; brothers, Bill Turnes, and Gary (Carolyn) Turnes; in-laws, Patricia Kelly, Dorothy (Norman “Bud”) Patterson, Ernie (Cheryl) Talbot, Eddie (Rhonda) Talbot, Carol (Steve) Middaugh; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (Josh) Isham; Zachary Fouch, Paige (Drew) Clouse; Courtney (Treg) Ulmer; Kathryn (Aaron) Lones; Mitchell Fouch; Thomas Rhodes, Ben (Katherine) Rhodes and Jacob (Chloe Martin) Rhodes; twelve great grandchildren; Jordan, Gavin Clouse; Addie Jane, William, Wyatt, Elsie May Ulmer; Bennett Rhodes; Jaxi, Jema, Jola, Juni Isham; Lincoln Fouch; along with many nieces & nephews, too numerous to list, but loved dearly. In addition to his wife and parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his mother/father-in-law; George and Goldie (Carney) Talbot; sisters-in-law, Diane Turnes, Chris Talbot, Jane Talbot and Norma Molnar; and brothers-in-law; Darrel Talbot, Roger Talbot, Donnie Talbot, Tom Talbot, John Talbot and Andy Kelly. Family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, 203 S. Columbus Street, Somerset. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with viewing one hour prior to the service at the Somerset Church of Christ, 314 N. Market St., Somerset, with Doug Oakes officiating. Burial will follow in Somerset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Jerry, to FairHope Hospice and Palliative Care, 282 Sells Rd, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. The family would also like to thank the staff at FairHope, with a special thank you to his home nurse, Becky Glade, as they provided wonderful care and kindness during this difficult season in our lives.
