Jason Soto Obituary

Jason “Jay” Soto, 47, of Somerset, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, October 29, 2021. Jay was born on October 18, 1974, in Wood County, Ohio to Adam and Wendy (Woodling) Soto. He attended Otsego High School where he excelled at wrestling, while simultaneously gaining skills in woodworking and small engine repair at the local trade-school. After moving to Columbus, Ohio, Jay met and married Jennifer Hanf on September 11, 1999, in Summit Station, Ohio. During his career, Jay worked in the field of telecommunication for numerous companies in various capacities, most recently as a contractor for Carousel and NiSource, where he genuinely enjoyed both his job and coworkers. After moving to Somerset, Ohio in 2008, Jay devoted time to his many hobbies including; caring for his small hobby farm, restoring classic 1970’s era short-bed Chevy trucks, hunting, woodworking, fishing, gardening, grilling, listening to country music, playing the lottery, mowing, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family. On top of these, Jay always devoted a portion of his free time to his kids, coaching them in a variety of sports throughout the years. Jay quickly gained friends in the community, mainly due to his general fun-loving disposition and his ability to garner a laugh from anyone at any time. Close friends and family members can attest that one of his greatest qualities was his ceaseless willingness to lend a hand on any project at any time. Without a doubt, one of Jay’s favorite activities was spending time working on projects with his friends and/or family while enjoying a few cold beers. Jay was a participating and faithful member of New Lebanon Lutheran Church in Junction City. Jay is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; aunts, uncles, and multiple cousins. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Jennifer; his sons, Zachery (26), Dakota (22) and Logan (12) who will continue to live in the house that Jay built with his own hands. Furthermore, Jay leaves behind his brother, Anthony Soto; and sisters, Chrissy (Jake) Michalski and Nikki Murphy; along with many nieces and nephews, all of whom he was very close with. A celebration of life will occur on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 W. Brown St., New Lexington, Ohio. There will be a church service that will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., immediately followed by a luncheon in the same location. There will not be a viewing of the body and face masks will be required for entry. An additional celebration of life will be held in Wood County, Ohio at a later date (TBD). Memorial contributions may be made to the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Somerset, Oho 43783. www.bopethomasfuneralhome.com
