James Lowell Pettit Obituary
James Lowell Pettit, 79, of Glenford, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at Mount Carmel St. Anns Hospital in Westerville, Ohio. Born in New Reading, Ohio, October 17th, 1945, the youngest son of the late Fenton F.W. and Pauline L. (Emmert) Pettit. Jim graduated from Sheridan High School. He spent over 50 years in the printing industry starting to work for his Uncle Frank Emmert at the Somerset Press. He continued his printing career when he enlisted into the United States Air Force assigned as a Lithographic Offset Pressman and working part time for Rich Lithography and Curtis Business Forms while stationed in Chicopee, Massachusetts at the Westover Airforce Base. After his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force Jim continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve when returning to Somerset, Ohio. He started a short stint with Merchandising Inc. in Columbus, Ohio prior to beginning his long stint of almost 30 years with Communicolor in Newark, Ohio. He finished his career in Lancaster, Ohio, retiring from Cyril Scott after 14 years as a Sales Representative. Jim enjoyed researching his family history as well as spending time with his family among his other hobbies. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Lori Ann Shellenbarger, his brothers Roland, Bernard, Fenton, Raymond, Ralph, and Wayne. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Nancy (Turner) Pettit and his son Chris Pettit (Christina), grandchildren Courtney and Corey, his son-in-law Colin Shellenbarger, grandchildren Grant (Brooklyn), Bryant, and Marcus as well as his great grandchildren Braxton and Blakely, his brother Don (Annie) and sister Betty (Ken) Harris. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jim will be remembered for his humbleness, kindness, unwavering integrity, and love for God and his family. His humor and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Somerset Church of Christ where Jim served as an Elder. Friends and family are invited to the Somerset Church of Christ, 314 N. Market St. Somerset, Ohio, on Thursday April 10th, 2025, where calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Somerset Cemetery with Military funeral honors conducted by the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58. The Somerset Church of Christ invites you back to the church for a luncheon immediately following the graveside service.
