James Joseph Dominic Dittoe, 89, of Somerset, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at Altercare of Somerset.
Jim was born September 29, 1931, in Somerset, Ohio, to the late J. Albert and Mabel Marie (Leckrone) Dittoe. He was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58, AmVets Post 51 and the NRA. He was also a member of UAW Local 1037, the Catholic Cemetery Conference and the International Bluegrass Music Association.
Jim retired from Rockwell-Meritor of Newark (30 years), was the fiscal officer of Reading Township for 28 years and the cemeterian of Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery for 30 years.
Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Marie (Smith) Dittoe, whom he married July 4, 1951; a son, Samuel J. (Sherri) Dittoe of Pickerington; grandchildren, Sara, Adam, Jacob, and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kenzie, Jeffrey, Mackenzie, and Reagan; a sister, Marilyn A. Dittoe Weidner; the Smith brothers-in-law, Albert, Martin (Donna), Bill, and Ralph (Gloria) Smith; and sisters-in-law, Miriam, Annie and Mary Rose Smith and Marjorie Wilson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Teresa (Dittoe) Barnes (2003); and a brother, Timothy A. Dittoe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on
Friday, August 27, 2021 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Andre-Joseph LaCasse O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
