Jack L. Swinderman Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on the morning of July 27, 2026. Jack was born to the late Eleanor and William “Bill” Swinderman Sr. on October 5th, 1961. He was a 1980 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Jack married his loving wife, Karen, on June 11th, 1983. Jack had a passion for sports that he passed to his kids. He especially loved baseball and took pride in the early skill development of his oldest daughter, Carrie, and used to brag about how she could hit the ball without a tee at the age of three. He coached his daughter Jessie’s summer league teams from the time she was eight years old until she graduated high school. He loved coaching and remembered those days as some of the happiest times of his life. He was able to help many girls have the opportunity to play a sport they loved and travel to many places to showcase their talents. While he spent many summers coaching softball, he spent many hours in the yard with his son Jack Jr. working on football “pre-conditioning conditioning.” It was something he took pride in to make sure his kids were prepared for their seasons and enjoyed watching them succeed in their endeavors. In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, and his oldest sister June Ricketts. He is survived by his three children, Carrie (Jason) Timko, Jessie (Mak) Dogbatse, Jack (Taylor) Swinderman Jr., his sisters Mary (Dale) Whitmire, Betsy (Dane) Koehler, and Janet Edie, his brother Bill (Jayne) Swinderman Jr., his six grandchildren Josie and Parker Timko, Jordyn, Kindall, and Morgan Swinderman and James Dogbatse, his brother-in-law Ken (Susan) Ballantine, his nieces Amy (Phillipe) Ricketts Jacques, Tara (Mike) Slatzer, Katie (Trevor) Murphy, Megan (Wes) Sellers, Abby (Marcus) Pardon, and Hillary (Desmond) Ferrell, his nephews Craig (Debbie) Ballantine and Jarrod (Emily) Swinderman, along with many great nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call on Thursday, July 30th from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, 203 South Columbus St. Somerset, OH. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31st at 11:00 am at Hopewell United Methodist Church, 11742 Gower Rd, Glenford, OH 43739 with Pastor Victoria Burgoon officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
