Eugene R. "Gene" Perry

Eugene R. “Gene” Perry, 86, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Gene was born June 17, 1937, in Somerset, Ohio, to the late Charles Maxwell and Lois Belle (Ridenour) Perry. He was a 1955 graduate of Glenford High School. In 1956, he joined the Army and served for 2 years. Gene was a graduate of The Ohio State University. He was also a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio. Gene worked for Production Credit Association, worked road construction for Shelly Company, and worked for Gulf Oil in sales before retiring as a realtor for C.V. Perry & Co. Realtors. Gene was an avid OSU fan and loved all sports. He played on the high school basketball team, played baseball for OSU, and bowled in several leagues. He grew up on his family’s farm, loved agriculture and had an amazing green thumb. Gene had a great sense of humor, made friends wherever he was, loved to travel, and had a fascination with the tv show, “The Curse of Oak Island,” hoping that someday they would find the missing treasure. Gene is survived by his daughter, Renae Lynn (Perry) Tufford of Apopka, Florida; granddaughter, Samantha Renae Tufford of Altamonte Springs, Florida; sister, Gladys Hanson of Knoxville, Tennessee; and brother, Paul (Marnette) Perry of Naples, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Anna Lee (Garey) Perry and his son, Phillip Eugene Perry. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, in Highland Cemetery, St. Rt. 757, Glenford, Ohio 43739. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 1621 Francisco Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43220, with Rev. Richard Schneider officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Glenford Cemetery Association, c/o Mike Shrider, 769 Harlech Dr., Newark, Ohio 43055.
