Elizabeth “Betsy” Jean Founds, 65, of Somerset, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at her home after a 3-year battle with lung and brain cancer. Betsy was born on May 17, 1958, to the late James and Charlotte (Wood) Carpenter of Thornville, Ohio. She worked as a librarian for nearly 13 years throughout Northern Local School District. Betsy was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Somerset. She loved to spend time in her flower gardens and watch her children and grandsons participate in sporting events. Betsy also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, as well as traveling from time to time. Betsy was an avid Ohio State football fan and loved cheering on The Buckeyes. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John; daughter, Jennifer (Chad) Geyer; sons, Travis Founds and Justin Founds; 2 grandsons, Grant and Colton Geyer. Betsy is also survived by siblings, Tim (Marcia) Carpenter, Cathie (Dean) DeRolph, Chris (Jim) Foura, Cindy (Jeff) Ritter, Nancy (Tony) Landis, Jimmy (Carmen) Carpenter, and Steve (Renee) Carpenter and many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents in 2017 and a sister, Janet Tener in 1997. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the medical providers at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital as well as nurses with Genesis Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Andre’ Joseph LaCasse O.P. as celebrant.
