Doyne Harold Swackhammer, 84, of Somerset, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family.
Doyne was born October 10, 1937, in Hocking County, and moved to Somerset in his early childhood. He was the son of the late Clayton I. and Flossie M. (Edwards) Swackhammer.
Doyne worked for ET Rugg in Newark and retired from Lear Corporation in Zanesville as a security guard. He volunteered at the Somerset Nursing Home as well as the Somerset United Methodist Church by playing piano. His favorite hymn was “I’ve Got A Mansion On The Hill Top.” Doyne should be remembered for his incredible musical gift, love of animals, sense of humor, and love for his family. He will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; along with two children, Kevin (Cindy) Swackhammer and Kathy (Randy) Miller; many grandchildren, Bryan (Shauna) Swackhammer, Morgan (Matthew) Allshouse, Harlei (Eric Allen) Miller, Ashlynne Swackhammer, Jackson Swackhammer, Xavior Hutcheson, Damani and Cahlani.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl J., Kenneth W., and Darrell E. Swackhammer; and one sister, Darlene Swackhammer.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the Somerset United Methodist Church, 139 E. Main St., Somerset, Ohio with the Rev. Karen Walters officiating. Burial will follow in New Reading Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Somerset United Methodist Church or to FairHope Hospice and Palliative Care.
