Douglas Ray Purkey, 51, of Somerset, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021.
Doug was born March 27, 1970, to David and Martha (Snyder) Purkey. He grew up in Mount Perry on Udder End Dairy Farm. He spent most of his time out in his garage, surrounded by whatever oddballs he befriended. Doug will be most remembered for his easy-going mindset, hearty laugh, and his big hugs.
Doug was always eager to help others. He gave his final gift through organ donation – through this gift he will be changing many lives.
He is survived, in addition to his father, by his loving wife of 29 years, Kimberly (Forgrave) Purkey; sagacious children, Grace, Donny, Elizabeth, and William (Makenzie); his future grandchild, Baby Purkey; sisters, Debbie (Ken) Donathan and Anna Purkey; and many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Purkey.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you please consider donating to Lifeline of Ohio in honor of Doug. The family also asks that you please consider donating to the Perry County Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF, because although he didn’t hunt, Doug was an avid member of the National Wild Turkey Foundation.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Bruce Forgrave farm, located at the corner of State Routes 668 and 204.
Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset is entrusted with the arrangements.
