Dorothy Joann Studer, 91, of Somerset, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at her residence. She was born on March 21, 1935, in Somerset, Ohio to the late Carl “Curly” and Mary (Reaver) Carney. She was married to Gerald Studer until his passing on September 29, 2016. She raised five children selflessly and spent 58 years caring for her youngest, Gary Studer, until his passing in November 2025. Joann cared for everyone she came in contact with, whether cooking for someone hungry or doing eye drops for a neighbor. She worked at St. Joseph’s rectory doing cooking, cleaning and transportation for so many priests and brothers for many years. She loved her church, St. Joseph’s, and her prayer books and statues. A special thank you to Julia Clouse, who provided her with the Eucharist and church news every Sunday and Holy Days. She is survived by her children, Edward (Deb) Studer, John Studer, and Mary (Jerry Weaver) O’Brien; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Sue DeLibera and Rita Nace; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Studer; sons, Patrick and Gary Studer; grandson, John Patrick Studer; sisters, Dodie Howden, Emma Printz, Thelma Watson, Rosie Dahlgren, Alice Starling and (infant sister) Nancy Carney; and a brother, Richard “Dick” Carney. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Andre’ Joseph LaCasse, O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset is entrusted with the arrangements.
