Donald R. Wineman, 90, of Glenford, died at 6:06 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at The Ohio State University Hospital, with many members of his family by his side. Don was born on May 6, 1932, in Rison, Maryland, the fifth child of the late John A. and Mary S. (Barnhart) Wineman. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era and retired from Newark Air Force Base after 29 years, where he was an Electronic Test Equipment Supervisor. He was an active member of Hopewell United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Don had an unwavering love for the Lord, his family, and farming. He was known for his unique ability to fix anything. He was slow to anger, but quick to provide a lively tune on the harmonica, words of wisdom, a family story, or a mischievous grin. When faced with a dilemma, his advice would be, “We’ll do the best we can with what we have to work with, and let the Good Lord take up the slack.” Don is survived by his wife of 20 years, Joanne (Hope) Wineman, whom he married on February 14, 2003; his daughters Judy (Mark) Brown, Barbara “Bobbi” (Raymond) Johnson, Traci (Robert) Erion, and Lisa (Frank) Renna; grandchildren Jason (Amanda) Brown, Jeremy (Cherice) Brown, Jeanette Brown, Cory (Rachael) Johnson, Katherine (Anthony) Welch, Rebecca “Becky” (Paul) Alexander, and Tina Renna; 9 great-grandchildren; step children Robert (Debbie) Swab, Heidi (Phillip) Smithers, and Julie (Hans) Wiegman; 10 step-grandchildren; and 22 step-great grandchildren; brothers David (Belva) Wineman and John A. (Carol Ann) Wineman II; sister Margaret Bachman; sister-in-law Ocie Kelly; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Paulene “Polly” (Stover) Wineman; brothers Andrew R., James E., and George S. Wineman; and sisters Rebecca J. Rues and Elizabeth “Betty” Adams. Friends may call from 12-1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Hopewell United Methodist Church, 11742 Gower Rd. NW, Somerset, Ohio, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 1 p.m. Don donated his body for research so “those young doctors have something to work on.” A private burial will be at a future date. The family would like to thank the excellent staff of The Ohio State University Hospital for their care and support. Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church or flowers may be sent care of Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, Somerset, OH. www.bopethomasfuneralhome.com
