David J, “Dave” Noll, 71, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 16, 2023, at 6:40 pm surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 3, 1952, in Zanesville, Ohio, the 5th child of the late William J and Rita M (Campbell) Noll. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1971.On September 13, 1975, he married the love of his life, Susan E (Henderson) Noll. They shared 47 wonderful years together and were blessed with 4 loving daughters. Dave was fiercely loyal to his family, farm, and his Catholic faith, making him the true patriarch of the Noll family. He enjoyed traveling and hiking all across the U.S. with family and special friends. Dave hiked such places as the bottom of the Grand Canyon, the Appalachian Trail, the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park in California, Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior, Lemon Mtn., Glacier National Park, and Zion National Park. Dave had a true love of the land and was a true steward. Dave and his family own a 415- acre fifth generation family farm and rented an additional 400 acres for crops and pasture. Dave also operated 100 head of commercial crossbred beef cattle. Dave always believed in conservation farming practices and preserving Gods precious farm ground. He had a great deal of his farm enrolled in grassland reserve programs and conservation security programs. In 1992, Dave enrolled his farm in an agricultural district. He felt so passionate, that he joined the Perry Soil and Water Conservation District and was a member for 24 years where he served as supervisor for many of those. Dave was on the advisory board for OSU extension Perry County and was also a member of Perry County Cattlemen’s Association, the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, and National Cattlemens Beef Association. Dave is a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Somerset, where he served on the Cemetery committee and was a Eucharistic Minister. Over the years, Dave was fortunate enough to be awarded a few special awards; 2009 Ohio Cattlemen’s Association Commercial Cattlemen of the year, 2006 Ohio Environmental Stewardship Award, and 2018 Perry Soil and Water Conservation District Conservationist of the year. Left behind to mourn his passing is his wife Susan E (Henderson) Noll; his children Erin (Brad) Turnes of Somerset, Kelly (Tim) Baker of Corning, Heather (Rob) Foster of Somerset, and Kim (Justin) Hillyard of Lancaster; Grandchildren Brady Turnes, Blake Turnes, Tyler Turnes, Clara Baker, Megan Turnes, Genevieve Foster, Logan Hillyard, Tate Baker, Faith Foster, McCormick Foster, and Noah Hillyard. Also survived by his brothers and sisters; Nancy (Rick) Battat, Carolyn Dotson, Larry (Karen) Noll, Ron (Cathy) Noll, Bill (Susan) Noll; his brother and sisters-in-law; Lowell (Mandy) Henderson, Mike (Debby) Henderson, Marty (Donna) Henderson, Barb (Ward) Phillips, Dave (Brenda Stickley) Henderson, Mary (Andy) Henderson, Beth (Steve) Fondale and many special nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death, in addition to his parents, were his brother-in-law Steve Dotson. Family and friends may call from 1-4pm Sunday August 20, 2023, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. The funeral Mass will be at 10:00am on Monday August 21, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Somerset with Father Andre-Joseph LaCasse, O.P. and Father Donald Franks as celebrants. Dave will be laid to rest at his beloved St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Somerset. A celebration of life with reception will follow immediately after burial at St. Josephs Parish Hall.
