Charles Vernon Gutridge, 87, of Glenford, Ohio, passed from this life on Sunday, July 19, 2026, under the care of Hospice at The Oaks at Northpoint. Vernon was born August 27, 1938, in Thornville, Ohio to the late Cecil and Mary (Trout) Gutridge. He graduated from Glenford High School and worked all his life as a farmer. He later instilled his knowledge to his grandsons so they could keep the family farm going. Vernon worked for Stewart and Alward selling furniture and appliances. Then he was on the road selling office furniture and supplies in Columbus and Newark for Charles Reiter Co. Vernon made many friends over the years and was a great wealth of knowledge about many things. He was very good with numbers and remembering measurements of things. Above all, Vernon loved his family. He worked side by side with his grandsons, planting, harvesting, making hay and dealing with the farm animals. Vernon leaves behind his daughter, Susan (Ron) Murphy; grandchildren, Clayton (Cassie) Smart, and Dylan (Tabby) Smart; and five great-grandchildren who made his day, Gunner, Cason, Lincoln, River and Sadie; and a brother, Harold Gutridge. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by his wife, Rita, his sister, Joyce; and his in-laws. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset where services will be held at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Glen Mellott officiating. A private burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
