Carl H. “Papa” Baker, 70, of Somerset, went to join the Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Papa was born in Greenup, Kentucky on February 4, 1955, to August and Clara Baker. He moved to Ohio when he was only 19 years old where he soon met his wife, Dreama Kathy Baker. He purposely ran into her car in the White Castle parking lot at Greenlawn & High Street just so he could talk to her. They married, had two children and lived on the east side of Columbus until 1995. They moved to Somerset, and he retired from his job at Buckeye Steel Castings in 2002. Papa was always very outgoing and kind. He never missed a chance to wink at a pretty girl or put his arm around a good friend. Always with a joke up his sleeve to put a smile on your face, he spent his days loving the outdoors and his garage. He restored numerous cars, trucks and tractors with his son. He camped and cruised the back roads with his daughter. He spent many weekends running in the mud and the dirt, out on the lake and the river boating with his family and friends. He spent quality time with his family and grandchildren at campfires, alongside his custom-built “hot dog stands”. Many, many miles were put on the family RV as memories were made. He is survived by his son, Casey (Jenny) Baker of Mount Perry; daughter, Cassie (Shane) Stepp of Somerset; grandsons, Chevy Baker, Dalton Stepp, Kenny Baker; great-grandson, Bentley Baker; mother, Clara Baker of Greenup, KY; siblings, Sherman (Bobbie) Baker of Greenup, KY, James (Becky) Baker of Greenup, KY, Phoebe Rose of Greenup, KY; special friend, Beverly Steele of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. Papa is preceded in death by his father, August Baker; wife and love of his life of 42 years, Kathy Baker; siblings, Alice Baker, Johnny Baker, Vicky Baker, and David Baker. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 4999 US Highway 22, Mount Perry, Ohio from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated and may be made to the Perry County Cancer Alliance, P.O.
