Burl W. Harris, 87, of Thornville, Ohio, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, at Fairfield Medical Center due to Covid.
Burl was born September 13, 1934 in Washington County, Alabama, the son of the late Isaac Harris and Zettie (Kirkland) Carter. He was a Korean Conflict Army veteran serving from 1952-1954. Burl was a heavy equipment operator, retiring from George J. Igel Company after 27 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nita (Hazlett) Harris of the home; one daughter, Beth (Kenny) Sesser, and three sons, Jeff, David and Kevin, all of Thornville; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brothers, Calvin Harris, George Carter, and Griff Carter and a sister, Alberta Henderson, all of Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, George Carter; sisters, Flossie Thompson, Mary Adzic, and Texine Andrews.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in Community Gardens near New Lexington.
