Betsy Marie (Patterson) Ponting

Betsy Marie Ponting, 96 years old, while surrounded by her family in Somerset, Ohio, passed away peacefully on 28 June, 2023. Betsy, born on 29 May 1927, was the only child of Anshelm and Eliza Patterson of Wilkes Barre, PA., and was the beloved wife of Harry Thompson Ponting, Sr for 57 years. She graduated from Elmer L. Meyers High School in Wilkes Barre, PA and received a Nursing Degree from the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. Upon completion of her Nursing degree, Betsy compassionately worked for 35+ years as a nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, and admissions official for numerous hospitals and nursing homes, to include the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield, Ohio. Betsy is survived by her four sons Harry Jr., Kurt Sr. (Dee), Rand (Sabrina) and Scott; her 6 grandchildren: Mallory Ponting (Eddie), Kurt T. Ponting, Kurt Ponting Jr, Kara Fisher (Mike), Matthew Ponting, and Kory Ponting; and 6 great-grandchildren Clara, Caitlin, Julia, Ellie, and Sutton, and Elliot. Betsy is preceded in death by her parents Anshelm and Eliza Patterson, and daughter-in-law Elma Ponting. The family of Betsy Marie Ponting is deeply grateful to Julie (Sutton) Ponting for her loving support. The family will perform a Life Ceremony for both Harry and Betsy Ponting at a future date to be announced. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bope-Thomas Funeral Home Somerset, Ohio.
