Neal Douglas Garey

Neal Douglas Garey, 82, of New Lexington, is at peace and with Jesus. He passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 11:52 a.m. Neal was born December 7, 1936, the son of the late Raymond A. and Phyllis (White) Garey. He was a “Jack of all trades” but mainly a welder for many years. He was a devoted family man and loving husband to Mary C. (Gordon) Garey for 60 years. Neal was also a member of the Ohio National Guard for 10 years. He loved his homestead and enjoyed “tinkering” around his garage. Neal will be lovingly remembered by his children, Dodie (Lou) Page, Debbie (Nelson) Pipes, Dede (John) McWhorter, Dottie (Jim) McCormick, Dave (Lorna) Garey, Doug (Theresa) Garey, and Diana (Randy) Gatenbee; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Barb Hoy; four brothers, Dale, Harold (Betty), Mick (Harriett), and Mike (Rosie); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry; a son-in-law, John McWhorter; a sister-in-law, Loretta Garey; and a nephew, Chad Garey. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset. A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Somerset. Burial and reception will follow. www.bopethomasfuneralhome.com
