Doris Axline Lattimer, 93, of Glenford, Ohio, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at Chapel Grove Assisted Living in Heath, Ohio where she had been a resident for five years.
Doris was born April 3, 1924 in Glenford, Ohio to the late Evan and Blanche (Gordon) Foucht. She was a 1942 graduate of Glenford High School where she was Salutatorian of her class, and a 1943 graduate of the Vocational Arts Center in Columbus.
Doris worked for Newark Ohio Power Company from 1943-1946, Glenford Post Office as Assistant Postmistress, Perry County ASC Office. She was secretary of Sheridan High School from 1960-1990, retiring after 30 years. She was also a precinct worker for the Glenford (Hopewell West) Election Board from 1990-2009. She was a member of Thornville Homemakers, Glenford Mothers Club, Glenford Elementary volunteer, Glenford Euchre Club, Thornville Senior Citizens, associate member of Perry County Retired Teachers, retired uncertified employee of the Luncheon Group of Sheridan High School and a life member of St. Paul United Church of Christ for which she was secretary for 25 plus years.
Doris loved and was dedicated to her family, her church and her friends. She prided herself for always knowing someone wherever she went, and if she didn’t, she would by the time she left. She loved her flowers and always had a beautiful display every summer. Her family loved to get together at Grandma Doris’, especially for the 4th of July fireworks.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Sandra (Junior) Hager of Summerville, SC, Cynthia Gebhard of Nitro, WV, Rick (June) Axline of Worthington, OH, Deborah (Tom) Minnery of Colorado Springs, CO, and Dawn (Steve) Yeakley of Wilmington, OH; her grandchildren, Todd (Samantha) Hager of Hoover, AL, Kelly (Jay) Holmes of Charleston, SC, Nate (Molly) Lattimer of LaRue, MO, Clay (Amber) Lattimer of Harbor Hills, Chris Gebhard of Nitro, WV, Curtis (Lisa) Gebhard of Cullodin, WV, Matt (Candace) Axline of San Diego, CA, Brooke (Dennis) Minotti of South Lake, TX, Kelsey Woolard of Columbus, David Minnery of Colorado Springs, CO, Jenny (Jon) Luminati of Alexandria, VA, Beth (Evan) Nielsen of Chicago, IL, Betany (Chris) Crutchfield of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Chase Yeakley of Hollywood, CA; great-grandchildren, Bennett, Mallory, and Braylen Axline, Sierra and Sidney Minotti, Kenly and Charleigh Hager, Will and Bo Holmes, Devan, Colton and Kendall Gebhard, Riley Minnery, Kate, Ellie and Miranda Luminati, Caylee and Carson Lattimer, Malcom and Thora Nielsen; and special friends, Wes and Harriet Gettys.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Alden Axline (1953) and Harold Lattimer (1975); her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Ruth Lattimer; and her brother, Frederick Foucht.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset and one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Paul’s Community Church in Glenford with Pastor Paul Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Reformed Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Doris Lattimer Scholarship Fund at Sheridan High School, or to Hospice of Central Ohio.
