Kenneth Perry Smith, 74, of Somerset, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Fairfield Medical Center surrounded by family. Kenny was born June 8, 1949, in Clayton Township, to Perry and Marguerite (Wardlow) Smith. He graduated from New Lexington High School in 1967 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in August of 1967. Kenny married Lydella Ann (Huston) Smith on November 4, 1972. Kenny served in the Marine Corps from 1967 until his honorable discharge on August 13, 1971. He was employed by Diamond Electronics in Lancaster, Ohio where he was an electrical engineer. Kenny enjoyed the outdoors with his family. He could always be counted on to help anyone in need and many relatives have benefited from his contributions over the years. He never shied away from helping with his grandchildren. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother, Donald, and his sister, Sandra Sole. He is survived by his wife, Lydella; his daughter, Sonya (Robert) Skinner; his son, Bartholomew (Kristin) Smith; his seven grandchildren; Rachel, John, Luke and Ezra Skinner, and Amelia, William and Benjamin Smith; his siblings, Patricia Bradley, Richard “Dick” (Mika) Smith, Susan (Greg) Canan, Jack (Mary) Smith, Gerald Smith, Daniel Smith, David (Andrea) Smith, and Mary Katherine (Alan) Wayne; two brothers-in-law, Paul Huston and Bill Sole; and numerous special nieces and nephews. Callings hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, at the Somerset Community Church, 139 East Main St., Somerset, Ohio 43783. A short service will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Rehoboth Methodist Cemetery, 3100 OH-345, New Lexington, Ohio 43764 with the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58 providing military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fairfield County Foundation in honor of Kenneth P. Smith to establish a future scholarship fund.
